Skilled in a language means both communication and writing skills.
Writing is not new to us, as we keep on writing the language from the day we knew it like notes taking in class, social media post, text to friends, letter writing, application filling etc.
It is inherent for a learner to think that one is less capable in particular skill one needs to learn. But it is not true. We already write. As anyone who reads the language, can write. Its just we place an extra effort to play through the writing skill. Our reading and speaking a language comes handy in learning to write.
Writing begins with translating the idea in mind and follow
the train of thoughts produced in language.
To learn a skill, practicing it long hours is the only way. We speak, read, so write and improve. Take an interesting topic, have rough writing, then proofread and improve.
Just as we say that listening is closely related to speaking, reading is closely related to writing. If you need to write a resume or intro of yourself, a great idea is to read some other resume from the internet or whatever source you have access to. After having read others, then you can attempt to write your own. Without a guide, don’t start to write. Checking quality right from beginning saves time and process.
To write, you need a vast vocabulary. Not all are dictionary
lovers. Have your preferred dictionary like take into account the following as
words with synonym, antonym, spelling, native language translator, grammar
usage, words used in sentence, pronunciation, similar meaning words.
You’ll be able to look up words to clarify words so as not
to repeat words or phrases, which will better your skills.
Words form basic structure of sentence, and sentence makes a
paragraph, mindmap of para makes an article. Learn the form. Do not trail off.
Words we start to learn form reading and dictionary, but sentences can be basic or long structured as we learn.
Grammar is more important when you write than when you speak
because it is usually more formal and more structured.
Read different texts to learn different kind of English. We
don’t write an essay and novel or social media post the same way.
Read newspaper, which gives differs by topic range and vocabs
to collect and familiarize to write them. Prefer active voice to passive in
writing. Like “I left the book open” and not “The book was left open by
me”. Writing is skill, not story telling.
Know what to and how to write first.
Audience based writing can engage and attract readers.
Learn to mindmap what to reproduce and then start to collect
vocabs topic related to write on.
Without outline, readers are prone to lose interest and not
understanding the text is waste of time. A good writing flows like a wave of
thoughts well connected to brush the shore gently.
Writing should help readers, read the writers mind.
Speaker can speak his mind out, same way in writing is less
preferred.
Speech words like To start, very, really, quite,
good,originally got, stuff,things,basically,to end,thus far etc.,
writing the fact in these words don’t communicate strongly
and without them, your text will mean the same and read far better.
Regardless of the method you choose, proofreading is a
critical part of the writing process and should never be overlooked.
If you attempt to identify and correct all errors within one
reading, you risk losing focus and may miss major mistakes.
One technique that the majority of professional proofreaders
use is to read the writing they are proofreading out loud.
Keep note of proofread of effective errors to be corrected.
Writing in typing can be quite different than pen.
