 THE “ART” OF WRITING

We read a lot of works. But can we art(write)?

Speeches can be written: Writings can be spoken.

Foremost rule to master the ability to speak and write our thoughts. That is the art to speak and write better.

We can speak our mind. It is different once you rise your pen or spread your hand across keypad.

Content rushes through your mind, if it is expressed effectively, that adds one’s artistic touch to writing.

“Skill of communication in words is an art”

Writing is done for communication, conveying ideas and feelings from your mind. Apart from personal works, majority of your writing belong to the public world. From notes, answers, thesis, report, social media posts, your writings will become the readable for another. Even the notes you take down are written for your future self.

The trademark to be recognized as good writing should have, “Accurate ideas, surrounding the audience, without ambiguity and correct usage of grammar, well maintained buoyancy of portrayal”.

If the above has reached the readers, I have best conveyed the meaning of good writing.

When you write, keep in mind the following,

The primary purpose of writing is for communication. So, you have to keep in mind of your readers. This seems not to be easy, as one could easily trail off in middle of conveying a message. A perfect shift from one point to another is much needed for the reader to get the idea you try to convey them.

In initial phase of writing, one could struggle in placing your thoughts into words, not reader-friendly piece of work. Everybody goes through this! Always have a method to organize your thoughts and ideas in which way can the reader easily decipher. They should be able flow through your writing, then repeatedly clarifying the message understood.

We have a habit, as you speak to others, we have a set of ideas in mind, but with the particular listener, we modify accordingly. Like, if you speak to a child, we use simple words for them to understand. For an ardent listener, we speak our mind out. Likewise, once you start to write, have this practiced habit of keeping the reader in mind.

Next is “style of writing”,

When you speak face to face, you could get the idea of when the listener understood the said point and you move to next. In writing, you could not get that guidance, so your words speak to them.

Readers may either be laymen or expert.

If laymen, you have to provide a detailed technical explanation. Use a language that is easy to grasp and slow pace makes your writing understandable.

In case of experts, feel free to use jargon and avoid non-technical explanations.  Language could be sophisticated and fast pace makes the writing likeable.

In some cases, the topic attracts both laymen and expert, where you could lean towards laymen. Language usage, for safer side, be apt writer with little technical usage with medium pace.

A writer has to have a set of keywords, topic-related to attract the attention of the readers, wholesome on the topic. A proper attention given by the readers is the motive best achieved by the writers in making them understand the topic.

Final note for reader-friendly writing, the more work you do in understanding the reader, the best is for the reader to get it right.

2.The “Art”

The content, well-balanced, constitutes the “Art” of writing. Set of common things to note before drafting the passage are being logical in the creation and grammatically correct usage. When one is vigilant in content, they may commit a grammatical error. So being attentive in both while writing is key important; well said. One tends to make either content flaw or grammatical flaw. If one is cautious to personal error they tend to make, thus the writing produced is art.

Next the writer should be aware of systematic flow of information to be written in the passage. The idea that needs to be expressed at which part of the passage and the content linkage best delivers the message at ease. A passage has three points to note-“Soundness” of the idea expressed, “Order” in which they are presented and “Link” in between for flow.

For example, in this blog about “The “Art” of Writing” – I have expressed the ideas about the writing in two topic contents and order has to be in delivering the satisfaction about understanding the concept and the linkage shows the flow for readers. If any of the above’s misdelivered, the effort rests on the reader’s shoulder to figure out the meaning wished to be conveyed.

The content in your writing should be logical and attentive on the topic. Do not contradict and deviate from topic and logic said, as original intent of the passage becomes invalid, twisting the information understood till now.

A well received “Art” should have basic rule as logical and attentive flow of presentation, focusing on the type of readers to be addressed.
